The 35th Golden Disk Awards started on January 9 with the singer IU winning the Digital Daesang (digital song of the year award), as well as the Digital Bonsang award.
During the speech, IU said: “On top of the Bonsang, it’s an honor to be receiving a Grand Prize at the Golden Disc Awards for the first time in three years. Thank you to the listeners who continuously showed their love for the song ‘Blueming’ for over a year. Thank you to the composers of the song. Thank you to my family at EDAM Entertainment. Thank you to the band team and dance team who helped me put on a great performance today. For my ‘Love Poem’ performance, I showed messages that artists wanted to send their fans through their music, so thank you to those artists for participating . . . Thank you to those artists who kept making amazing music with the belief that even though we are in difficult times, we need music, as well as to the concert staff who are going through a really hard time right now.”
During her speech, the singer also mentioned that there were plans for an upcoming comeback, saying that a new full album was in the works. She continued by saying she hopes to release at least one song during the first month of the year that could bring strength and “sincere comfort to those who are tired and suffering right now.”
IU also mentioned that she would not waste a “single moment of carelessness”, and also expressed gratitude to the artists who “kept making amazing music with the belief (…) even though we are in difficult times”, as well as to the concert staff “who are going through a really hard time right now.”
IU took home two awards which included the Grand Prize or Digital Daesang (for the first time in three years), as well as a Digital Bonsang.
